Bergeson & Campbell, P.C. (B&C®) and its consulting affiliate, The Acta Group (Acta®), are seeking a toxicologist and regulatory scientist to join our growing team of regulatory consultants, scientists, and policy experts. This position will be a full-time position, with the option to work as a hybrid in-office and telecommuting professional in our Washington, D.C. office, or full-time telecommuting professional directed from our Washington, D.C. office.

Overview of Requirements

Applicants should be experienced in all aspects of human health and environmental hazard and risk assessment; qualitative and quantitative human health and environmental risk assessment to support regulatory requirements under the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA), the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA), the Food Quality Protection Act (FQPA), and related U.S. federal and state regulations. Experience with the regulatory requirements of the European Union’s Regulation EC 1907/2006 (REACH) is desirable. Applicants must have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in Toxicology, Biology, Public Health, or related scientific discipline and must have at least 5-7 years of experience as a toxicologist and risk assessor for a regulated entity, consultancy, or regulatory agency.

 

Key Functions

  • Work with clients and firm colleagues, domestically and abroad, to prepare, analyze, and interpret environmental, toxicity, and public health data to improve label language and hazard communication protocols pertaining to user safety. 
  • Analyze large environmental data sets, perform statistical analyses, and prepare data for regulatory submission.
  • Interact with clients and team members to develop and implement strategies to meet the clients’ regulatory objectives.
  • Monitor assigned studies and assess study data and resulting draft reports for scientific accuracy, quality, and compliance with applicable guidelines and regulations.
  • Manage assigned projects to ensure timely completion, including coordination with team members.
  • Coordinate with team members for placement and monitoring of required studies when needed to support client registration and amendment applications.
  • Assist with global regulatory risk assessments and related strategy issues.

 

Desired Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in Toxicology, Biology, Public Health, or a related science;
  • Diplomate of the American Board of Toxicology (DABT);
  • Minimum 5-7 years of experience in the field of human health and ecological risk assessment; 7-10+ years of experience preferred;
  • Experienced in the development and interpretation of physicochemical, environmental fate, exposure, and toxicity data to generate scientifically defensible human health and ecological risk assessment documents;
  • Experienced with hazard/fate/exposure models for human health and ecological risk assessments;
  • Experienced in designing, conducting, and/or reviewing environmental and human health studies performed according to validated testing guidelines and under Good Laboratory Practice standards;
  • Experienced in the development of strategies for exposure mitigation using engineering controls, protective equipment, and improvement of label language pertaining to user safety;
  • Experienced in communication to regulatory agencies in support of registration and notification efforts;
  • Experienced with U.S. industrial chemical control laws;
  • Self-directed with strong project management skills;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills;
  • Strong interpersonal skills; and
  • Comfortable in collaborative/matrix environment.

All telecommuters will be required to adhere to B&C’s Telecommuter Policy.

Compensation commensurate with experience.

Location: Washington, D.C., with telework options available.
